This was a special edition of Wellbeing Wednesdays, where I opened up the doors to everyone, including people who'd recently seen me and a colleague speak at a medical conference, on the topic of “The Neuroscience of Wellbeing”. Naturally there were a lot of questions that arose, and we didn't get to answering many of them at the conference, so this was the first of two events put on to answer some of those questions, as well as briefly recapping the topic of the talk. As such, if you’re new to this understanding, this is the perfect one to start with.
I've titled it as “The one about… Surrender” because it's a really helpful topic to get your head round, and we spent a full third of the evening talking about it (the final third). Here are some of the questions we covered:
-
how exactly neuroscience relates to this understanding of wellbeing
-
what are emotions & feelings – are they the same or different?
-
moving from a negative to a positive mindset, and why that's not necessarily a good thing
-
how “getting hit by a car” is of course real—please look after your bodies!—but also “in your mind”
-
the difference between accepting, ignoring & denying a busy mind
-
what to do when reality is “terrible”
This was a lovely edition. Now I've put the edit together, I can safely say it's truly one of my all time favourite episodes of Wellbeing Wednesdays, and super-helpful, I think. I hope you find time to settle in and devote your full attention to it.
